Historical Note
The Modern Olympic Games, revived in 1896 by Pierre de Coubertin, were established to promote international unity, peace, and excellence through sport. Inspired by ancient Greek traditions, the Games encourage fair competition, cultural exchange, and the celebration of human achievement.
Over time, the Olympics have evolved to embrace diversity and inclusivity, with the addition of women’s events, the Paralympics, and Youth Games. They have also reflected global changes—serving as a stage for diplomacy, innovation, and cultural expression.
Today, the Olympics continue to inspire worldwide audiences, highlighting the enduring belief that sport can foster understanding and connection across nations.
