This collections contains correspondence, memorandum, fliers, by-laws, programs and other materials pertaining to the CSU Status of Women Commission and the Women’s Council of the State University (WCSU). Materials in this collection focus on the annual conferences hosted by the WCSU, the expansion of the orginization to individual chapters at multiple campuses throughout the California State University (CSU) system, and women’s issues and gender studies within academia.

Biographical Note

The Status of Women Committee began organzing annual conferences in 1985. The "CSU: Status of Women Conferences and Training Sessions" I-III occurred from 1985 to 1986. From there, the commission evolved into the Women’s Council of the State University (WCSU), continuing their annual conferences and expanding to individual chapters at campuses throughout the California State University (CSU) system. The WCSU worked closely wih the CSU Loan/Doctoral Incentive Program and the Center for Transfer and Reentry. The conferences hosted by the WCSU include: ”Institutionalizing Change for Women in the CSU” conference in 1987, ”Crossing Boundaries: Working Together for Change in the CSU” in 1988, ”Responding to Diversity: Strategies for Success” in 1989, and ”Connections: Healing Division, Affirming Diversity” in 1991.
